Holland is the much used name for our country but officialy it is called: the Netherlands. Holland refers to two provinces; north-holland and south-holland, an important part of the Netherlands in history. The name: the Netherlands refers to the low level of the land,a quarter of the land lies below sea level. The lowest part of the country near Rotterdam is 6.7 metre or 22 feet below sea level. We will call it Holland for now because it is the most well-known name of our country.
